WHEN I SAID, I’ve been living “The Life” yesterday, I wasn’t kidding. In the past 5 months I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Fort Myers, Hawaii, Whistler (does that count as travelling?), Arizona and California. I know. Pinch me.

I did a mediocre job of summing up my trip to Hawaii so here’s take two of my more recent trip. I’m really awesome at taking photos while I’m on the trip and not so awesome about loading them up and editing them…. oopsy!

Pinnacle Peak Arizona

So, how did I end up in Scottsdale and Laguna Beach? Well as fate would have it Daniel and I both had West Jet credit that needed using and since my parents have a place down in Arizona, Scottsdale was sort of the clear destination choice money-wise. Then I had to ask my boss (me) if I could get the vacation time approved. I said yes (oh, I fully intend to take advantage of this self-employed thing while it lasts).

The timing was awesome too because both our schedules were about to explode work-wise so this trip was an awesome getaway to relax before things got busy. Besides it just makes sense to throw a brand new couple into a trip to see if you can tolerate each other for a whole week, right? I mean better to find out sooner than later I think. [Spoiler alert: we survived nearly missing a flight connection, lost baggage and 2 eight-hour car rides. I think we’ll be just fine.]

I don’t know what it is about AZ but I just love it so much.

While driving to Pinnacle Peak for our hike we stumbled upon the coolest little western-themed complex that was home to the Pinnacle Peak Patio. It’s been there for eons so I don’t know how I’d never heard of or seen it the bazillion other times I’ve visited the state.

See all those ties hanging from the ceiling? The thing to do there is to wear an old tie and then they cut it off your neck and pin it up! When I say this place has been there for eons I mean it. SO MANY TIES. Go for the cool experience but not for the food. Next time I’d like to skip the BBQ and visit this place at night since it turns into a bar with live music.

Anyway, smack down in the middle of our little desert getaway we were presented with an offer we couldn’t refuse. My aunt had some paintings in a gallery in Palm Desert that was closing that she needed retrieved. I’m not even a little bit embarrassed to admit that fully knowing my obsession with MTV’s Laguna Beach, she bribed me with a trip to the coast to pick them up for her.

California Road Trip

Road Trip

As exemplified in the photo above you can clearly see that we are no fun.

We stayed at the La Casa Del Camino Hotel in a “surf” suite which was themed and sponsored by Billabong. I wish I had taken a photo of the room but for some reason I didn’t. Take my word for it, it was really cool.

…You guys, La Casa Del Camimo is where LC and Jason had their first date. Just sayin’…

We arrived just in time to catch the sunset so we took a picnic dinner (that we had packed 10 hours ago in Scottsdale) and a bottle of wine down to the beach to enjoy it. I’m lucky that Daniel is aligned with both my desire to 1. eat healthy and 2. save money. You know the saying “for days” we literally had “quinoa salad for days” but like actually for days. 3 days to be exact.

Laguna Beach Run

Laguna completely took our breath away. We had the best time there, enjoying some solid beach runs, Frisbee playing and general chillaxing. We also discovered a mutual love for Banzai Bowls. I would do terrible things for a Banzai Bowl right now.

We decided to put an offer in on someone’s gazebo but it turns out we couldn’t even afford that. Side note: PEOPLE GET TO LIVE HERE?! HOWWWWWWWW?

You wanna know what sunglasses are good for? Hiding our drunk eyes in this photo thanks to Mojito happy hour on the rooftop of our hotel.

I should also mentioned that Daniel and I got physically taken down by a piece of cheesecake, a peanut butter bar and a crème brûlée. Somehow we let our server talk us out of sharing 1 dessert and into splitting 3. NEVER. AGAIN.

After Laguna we headed to Palm Desert to pick up the art before continuing on to Scottsdale again. When we hit the open road Daniel turns to me and says “I’m going to drive slowly and safely now that we have the art in the car”. I’m only slightly offended that he was more concerned about the art on the way back than the lovely lady he had in the car on the way there. Whateves, my aunt IS a pretty damn good artist.

CALL OFF THE search party. I’m alive! You were worried weren’t you? I always hate apologizing for not posting regularly on here but this time I’ll do it because I kinda peace-ed out for a whole month unannounced. I’m sorry.

Soooo I got back from Hawaii a few weeks ago and have a ton of photos I’m excited to share. One of my goals for the year is to get back into photography. With a brand new lens (c/o my grandparents for my birthday) and a colourful landscape I really had no excuse not to shoot up a storm while on vacation.

HawaiiSigns_2I fell in love with all the cute little fruit stands that lined basically every road. It was impossible to not want to stop at every single one. Literally you couldn’t drive more than 5 minutes without passing another brightly coloured pop-up promising fruit fresher than the last.

Seeing the abundance of fruit so readily available really made me realize how far it’s gotta travel to get to me in Vancouver. I mean, of course some stuff is or can be grown locally… but in Hawaii it’s like fruit trees are just part of your front yard landscaping.
