IT’S QUITE POSSIBLE that the saying “too many cooks in the kitchen” was conceived in this very kitchen. My kitchen. My itsy-bitsy-not-nearly-enough-counterspace-floors-caving-in-on-one-side kitchen. It’s wee – but I love it (and I’ve come to love all it’s quirks too). My apartment is far from “done” (my TV is still chilling on top of a cardboard box) but the kitchen has certainly seen the most progress and I figured it was about time I share it with you.
I did a few things to make the space my own including trading in all the knobs on my cabinetry for mismatched Anthropologie ones. I love the subtle touch of whimsy they add to the space. It also helped me introduced my colour-scheme (white, black, mint and gold) without having to be over the top. My inspiration? Centered around my most prized possession – my kitchen aid mixer, of course.
I was hesitant to purchase mint green plates but in the end I’m so glad I did. I knew I wanted to store my dishes on open shelving and I like the touch of fun the colour adds…it also helped that they were an incredibly cheap Ikea find. If you follow me on instagram then you know that I’ve declared striped paper straws to be part of my never-out-program, so there they are in all their stripey glory!
And of course – my runner-up prized possession – the thing I just couldn’t say no to having – my gold flatware. Which makes me happy every time I eat (okay I’m always happy if I’m eating but extra happy) and it makes me not hate washing the dishes too. Bonus!
And there you have it – a mini House Of Les tour and probably the only one you’ll get for a loooooong while – so.much.work.to.do.
